The Plantation's Golf Course
|

Background
In midyear 2000, The Plantation Country Club spent $1,800,000
to refurbish the golf course. The tees were expanded 198,000 sq. ft,
a $250,000 irrigation system was installed, over 30,000 lineal feet
of fairway drainage was added, rebuilt all 58 sand bunkers and rebuilt
all greens planting the hybrid Bermuda grass Tifeagle. Work was completed
in 125 construction days. The redesign was by Arnold Palmer Golf Course
Company.
Golf Course
- Single hole configuration meandering through the entire development
– "not parallel as most other courses".
- Water is on 16 of the 18 holes. There are a total of 120 acres of
fresh water lakes and canals.
- There are a total of 58 sand traps throughout the golf course.
- 5 sets of tees are on every hole, providing a means for adjusting
the distance and challenge at any time for all handicaps. Yardage:
Gold 6958, Blue 6480, White 6056, Green 5601, Red 5069 (Par 71).
- Winter over-seeding is planted on all tees and fairways in mid-October
so that there will be continued year round color.
- Flowering annuals are from mid-October through November for the
fall and in April for the Spring and Summer. Each bed requires 14
days for preparation – "not all beds will be empty at the
same time".
Uniqueness
- Great Arnold Palmer design "never gets boring".
- Maintained in excellent condition – stays tournament ready
all year. Not just at certain times.
- Driving range – simulates the golf courses:
- seven target greens
- sand traps, greens, chipping greens and putting greens.
- There are 5 ½ miles of continuous concrete cart paths poured
from tee to green which in turn enables The Plantation to remain open
even in the wettest times of the year.
- Tremendous drainage systems are located in several places on each
golf hole. Helps the golf course dry out twice as fast as other local
courses.
- Storm water pump station enables us to lower lake levels as weather
dictates.
- Our development and common grounds are all neat, clean and well
groomed year round.
